Motivation and context:
Digitalization of the primary sector is a challenging objective to provide advanced technological tools for a better management of natural resources, increase the efficiency of external inputs and perform a chain-value of their commercial products. This is one of the objectives of Digital Innovation Hub on Livestock, Environment, Agriculture & Forest (DIH-LEAF), shared with the University of Burgos. In order to collaborate in the digitalization of the primary sector, this Joint Research Unit has been founded.
DIH-LEAF brings together different actors connected with the production sector and from different technology initiatives. Universities, technological centres, companies, producer associations, non-profit associations, all of them take part in DIH-LEAF with the objective to
face the wager of digitalisation and technological innovation in Northern Spain. DIH-LEAF is established as an independent and unique digitalisation ecosystem with the final objective to digitalise these entities improving their efficiency, competitiveness, and sustainability throughout the application of Information and Communication Technologies. This way, it also contributes to the sustainable development of both rural and urban areas.
DIH-LEAF was recognized as a “fully operational” DIH and selected to join the European Digital Innovation Hubs network, being funded by the first EDIHs call under the Digital Europe Programme, in the DIGIS3 proposal.
