- Key words: large-scale Hydrogen Valley, clean hydrogen, REPowerEU
- Abstract and objectives: CyLH2Valley aims to develop and demonstrate a large-scale Hydrogen Valley in Castilla y León, Spain, integrating mobility, industrial and energy applications. Aligned with the EU hydrogen strategy and REPowerEU, the project will demonstrate hydrogen’s versatility and assess the financial viability of an interconnected regional ecosystem. Activities will focus primarily on Burgos, particularly the Villalonquéjar industrial estate. Initial developments will also encompass Gamonal–Villafría, the University Hospital of Burgos, Castañares and Lerma, with subsequent expansion towards the Burgos–Valladolid corridor. Coordinated by Fundación CARTIF, the project started on 1 April 2025 and will run for 60 months. Its 18 work packages are organised into three phases: 18 months of design, followed by 18 months of implementation of nine pilot projects, and two years of operation and exploitation, including validation and scaling up.The nine pilots will demonstrate how different hydrogen applications can function together as an integrated system, with full integration and operation targeted for 2028–2029. Their performance will provide evidence to support further deployment and expansion.By aligning stakeholders across the hydrogen value chain, CyLH2Valley seeks to establish the foundations for a clean hydrogen economy in Castilla y León by 2035, contributing to European energy transition objectives and the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
