Saint James Way, from the past to the present
DESCRIPTION
The province of Burgos is one of the most significant stages of the Camino de Santiago in the Iberian Peninsula. Its strategic geographic location made it a key passageway for millions of European pilgrims journeying from their home countries in search of the tomb of the Apostle James.
Over the 114 kilometers of the French Way that cross the province, pilgrims encounter remarkable cultural heritage and extraordinary natural beauty, featuring plains, mountains, valleys, and moorlands—an exceptional landscape recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Each village along the route preserves the imprint of its rich past. Highlights include Redecilla del Camino, Belorado, Villafranca Montes de Oca, San Juan de Ortega, the city of Burgos, San Antón, and Castrojeriz.
The main goals of this course are to explore the historical and cultural evolution of the Camino and its social impact throughout history, as well as to examine its current development and the new challenges it faces today.
