Objectives
By completing the masterclass you will:
- Equip yourself with key aspects of neuroscience to make learning easier for your students
- Dispel some myths about the brain and learning
- Work with practical tools to increase engagement and attention for more students
- Discover evidence to back up your current good practice
- Increase retention of learning for the long term
- Get better results for you, your learners and the organisation
Contents
Session 1
- What is neuroscience and why it matters to you
- Learn about the building blocks of your brain and mechanisms for learning; including neuroplasticity.
- Experience ‘spaced repetition’ to improve long term memory and help students be more successful – how to adapt it to your teaching
Session 2
- Find out what happens in people’s brains when they are motivated - and how to improve their motivation for continued learning
- Discover how to use brain waves to prevent cognitive overload – techniques to work with large amounts of information
- Look at how sleep is connected to learning – tools and tips to improve sleep and learning
Session 3
- Walk through different types of memory and the mechanics of memory. Learn how to make different types of learning more ‘sticky’
- Discover 6 key questions to challenge neuro-myths and check good evidence for yourself
- Apply ideas from neuroscience to your own teaching situations – action planning
Session 4
- Review your actions and share good practice, challenges and solutions with colleagues
- More about helping learners learn more effectively
- Plan for the future
- What else do you want to know?
Methodology:
This is an interactive, practical workshop based on evidence, research and practical experience from the book ‘Neuroscience for Learning and Development’ and many years of experience. We use accelerated and brain friendly learning techniques so people are motivated, engaged, participate in practical activities and have opportunity to reflect and apply the techniques to their own learning situations.
You will participate in group activities, have time to work together in pairs and small groups on your own interests plus time to review your learning and reflect on your own teaching.
Aunque el curso va a ser impartido en inglés, los ejercicios que se van a realizar en clase pueden ser realizados en inglés o en español. Ambos profesores hablan inglés y español en caso de cualquer dificultad con el inglés.
