Course description
This course explores cultural and natural resource management in Spain through an economic ecology and field methods approach. We will learn about challenges, policies and economic activities that affect ecosystems and the environment, as well as cultural heritage sites. We learn from experts, acquire our own field data and aerial photography to create landscape, 3D and VR models to better understand how specific resources are managed in southern Europe.
We will focus on key agricultural activities (wine and olive oil production), water resources (coasts and rivers), and cultural heritage sites (neolithic, medieval and Roman structures) utilizing mapping applications and aerial photography techniques.
The University of Burgos will serve as our home base. There, we will attend workshops and utilize their facilities (computer labs, maker space with 3D printers, and virtual reality room). From there, we will visit additional sites in Spain and Portugal, acquire data and return to Burgos. Finally, students will present their work at a symposium at University of Burgos.
