Which Sustainable Developing Goal from 2030 Agenda will you like to help to find a solution to?
With this project we are facing one main SDG from 2030 Agenda: SDG 10: Reduce inequalities within and among countries. Within this SGD, Equalia is mainly working with Challenge 10.7 and Challenge 10.2.
Contrasting the information provided by the official study: the SDGs in the town of Burgos, prepared by the University of Burgos and presented in 2020 (http://www.aytoburgos.es/archivos/tuciudad/articulo/documentos/informe-fase-31-3-2020.pdf) , SDG number 10 Challenge 10.7 is unfulfilled and there is no information from 10.2 at a local level.
Therefore, in order to achieve Challenge 10.7, Equalia provides legal advice for migrants to obtain a settled status in Spain and inform them about the process they must follow to achieve this – always under the supervision of a professional-. We ensure a safe, - Final Project 2021 - - 4 - regular and responsible mobility of people through the promotion of planned and organized migration policies.
In order to achieve Challenge 10.2, Equalia is promoting the inclusion of many members of the society regardless their conditions. We want these members of the community to feel included and protected by our society.
On the second level, with this project we are facing SDG 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
First of all, we ensure gender equality within the project as all the members of our organization are people of all-gender-identities and are assigned equal responsibilities and spaces in this project.
Secondly, Equalia is working with Challenge 5.1 and 5.2 as Cruz Roja Juventud is a neutral, independent and prejudice-free institution, which means they are solely focused on protecting dignity as well as guaranteeing the Fundamental Right of Equality.
Finally, Equalia is working on this challenge providing assisting services to women who are or have been victims of gender violence, specially young women who might find it difficult to ask for help from Official Institutions due to shame or fear. They will encounter a friendly and warm treatment from us.
What specific measures will be implemented?
Equalia is a project aimed at helping families and individuals who are experiencing a situation of necessity and social inequalities to overcome their difficulties. We offer this judiciary counsel to any person or family who is unable to access a lawyer, specially those who are in a situation of abuse or gender violence, irregular migration, refugees, etc.
The Methodology we suggest involves offering legal support by volunteer students of the Faculty of Law at UBU for free. Therefore, it promotes the collaboration between the University of Burgos (UBU) and Cruz Roja Juventud to give support and legal advice to members of the community of Burgos who live in a situation of inequality. The students would count with the assistance of Professors and Tutors from the Faculty and from Cruz Roja Organization in order to provide such advise.
For the execution of the project, we provide personalized guidance to ensure and respect the privacy of all individuals. Our meetings are held in the premises of the University of Burgos as well as in the facilities of Cruz Roja. Due to the Covid Pandemic, we also offer online services if needed or required.
During these hard times this initiative wants to promote human values as important as solidarity, commitment to our society and a high sense of community service. At the same time, our volunteers improve their communication and professional skills to put into practice the knowledge their have acquired during theirr formal education.
