Description
JPUEGE Module aims to strengthen teaching and research in judicial cooperation and the European Union (EU) Area of Freedom, Security and Justice (AFSJ). It focuses on training university students and young professionals, especially those with no previous contact with European affairs, in the fundamental aspects of judicial cooperation, including its evolution, institutions, principles and instruments.
The proposal addresses current AFSJ regulatory developments and challenges. Examples include the regulation of the European Arrest Warrant, Common Minimum Standards in civil proceedings, and orders for the production and preservation of electronic evidence in criminal proceedings. The adaptation of measures related to procedural rights of vulnerable defendants and the difficulties of implementation are also analysed. From an interdisciplinary perspective, experts in procedural and substantive law are brought in to examine the implementation of European instruments in national legal systems. This encourages a critical analysis of the achievements and limitations of the AFSJ.
The project seeks to disseminate knowledge on judicial cooperation, targeting students of law and other fields, while also fostering a deeper understanding of how the AFSJ impacts the daily lives of European citizens. A key educational objective is to enhance legal literacy and critical thinking, equipping students with the necessary skills to analyse and apply EU legal instruments effectively. This specific training enhances professional skills and raises awareness of common EU values, encouraging active citizenship and improving access to justice. In addition, the collaboration with judicial institutions and legal professionals, ensures a practical and inductive approach.
