Motivation and context:
Advanced materials are one of the most extensive national and international research lines. They are present in our day-to-day in numerous applications, although they often go unnoticed. We use them as fibers, to manufacture cut-resistant or flame-resistant clothing. We also use them as dense materials to store energy and to build increasingly efficient buildings. Additionally, advanced materials have democratized many analyses for quality control, environmental control, food safety, or even biomedical applications, making it possible for anyone to carry out chemical analyses that were only available to highly equipped laboratories just a few years ago.
In this context, this joint research unit aims to group the different advanced material’s research lines already developed at the University of Burgos. This way, knowledge is generated to solve problems of great interest and high impact on society, through the collaboration between very multidisciplinary groups belonging to different branches of science, but with a common objective, to continue improving in the field of advanced materials and consolidate a team able to attract resources.
