Información de la convocatoria

The Hamburg Institute for Social Research is looking to recruit a Research Associate / PostDoc (full-time).

The newly founded research group on the Sociology of Law led by Prof. Dr. Tobias Eule, Professor for Sociology of Law at the University of Bern, will provide a space in which practices and ideas of law can be critically analyzed in order to shed light on complex social phenomena. The aim is not to examine law for its own sake, but to use it as a “lens” to illuminate sociological questions. The projects (to be carried out independently within the framework of employment) are concerned with phenomena at the margins of the state and statehood, and focus on government practices, legal consciousness and resistance at the margins of the state.

Particularly welcome are proposals for projects that – while based in the fields of sociology, history, political science, law or anthropology – are seeking an interdisciplinary context for discussion. Preference is further given to innovative approaches that concentrate on topics as yet under-researched within the field(s) of the sociology (anthropology, history) of law, and/or examine well-researched empirical phenomena with new theoretical approaches.

Deadline: January 1, 2020.
