A) Official recognition of foreign studies for partial Spanish university studies.
The official recognition or ‘convalidación ' of foreign studies for partial Spanish university studies corresponds to the Spanish university at which the interested party wishes to pursue his or her studies, in accordance with the criteria set by the Consejo de Coordination Universitaria (University Coordination Council): "Studies approved as part of a study programme leading to the award of a foreign higher education qualification may be officially recognised, when the content and teaching hours of the former studies are equivalent to those of the corresponding subjects included in a study programme leading to the award of an official qualification [in Spain]".
Official recognition of the foreign higher education studies that meet the criteria set out by Consejo de Coordination Universitaria (University Coordination Council) will be considered:
- When the studies undertaken in accordance with a foreign system have not lead to the award of the corresponding qualification.
- When the studies have led to the award of a foreign qualification and the interested party has not requested the homologation of the latter for an official qualification from a Spanish university.
- When, having requested the homologation of the foreign qualification, the latter request has been refused, provided that the refusal was not grounded in any of the following causes of exclusion listed below, regardless of whether the studies led to award of a qualification.
The following qualifications or foreign studies cannot be officially recognised:

When the studies have led to the award of a foreign qualification, the interested party may choose between requesting its homologation in exchange for an official Spanish university qualification or official recognition of part of the studies, bearing in mind that both possibilities cannot be requested simultaneously and are subject to the following rules.

B) Admission of students with foreign university studies.
Applications for places from students with partial or complete foreign university studies who meet all of the latter requirements, for the purposes of continuing the same or equivalent studies, will be decided on in line with the following rules:
1ª Applications for places from students who have studied at foreign universities whose first course or a minimum of 60 credits are officially recognised will be decided by the University Rector, who will act in accordance with the criteria laid out by the Governing Council that will, in all cases, take into account the academic record while at university.
2ª If the application is for a place on a course of studies on which demand for places is lower than places on offer, it will be sufficient for students to have been awarded 15 officially recognised credits, or where applicable, one study unit.
3ª Students whose studies are not officially recognised will have to sit an entrance exam to Spanish universities, unless the pre-university studies that have been officially recognised allow for direct university entrance without the need to pass an entrance test, without prejudice to the current priorities and criteria for assessment laid down by R.D. 69/2000 de 21 de enero [Royal Decree 69/2000 of 21 January] (B.O.E . 22/01/20009) [Official Bulletin of State 22/01/2000]
