GRADINGS OF THE DEGREE IN CHEMISTRY
ECTS Grading Scale |
Definition |
UBU Grades |
---|---|---|
A |
outstanding performance with only minor errors |
Matrícula de Honor (9.5-10) |
B |
above the average standard but with some errors |
Sobresaliente (8.6-9.4) |
C |
generally sound work with a number of notable errors |
Notable (6.6-8.5) |
D |
fair but with significant shortcomings |
Aprobado (5.6-6.5) |
E |
performance meets the minimum criteria |
Aprobado (5.0-5.5) |
FX |
Fail - some more work required before the credit can be awarded |
Suspenso (3.0-4.9) |
F |
Fail - considerable further work is required |
Suspenso (0.0-2.9) |
Note: The ECTS system initially divided students between pass and fail groups and then assessed the performance of these two groups separately. Those obtaining passing grades were divided into five subgroups: the best 10% are awarded an A grade, the next 25% a B grade, the following 30% a C, the following 25% a D and the final 10% an E. Those who had not achieved a performance sufficient to allow a passing grade were divided into two subgroups: FX (Fail - some more work required before credit can be awarded) and F (Fail - considerable further work is required). This distinction allowed differentiation between those students who had been assessed as almost passing and those who had clearly lacked the required knowledge and skills.
