The general objective of this project is directed to enforcement and demonstration activities of the capture of GHG produced in agroindustry, their fixation in autochthonous algal biomass and their agronomic application as sources of plant nutrients and C sink in soils.

To achieve this overall objective, the following specific aims:

• Enhance C balance in agroindustrial processes through their fixation in autochthonous algal biomass using portable photobioreactors.
• Use of nutrient excesses in sewage water generated in the agroindustrial sector or livestock production systems to produce algal biomass.
• To obtain a soil bio-improver to diminish the agricultural dependence of mineral fertilizers and to achieve higher soil fertility and crop production.
• To reduce C-footprint in the agroindustrial sector.
• Economic and environmental evaluation of the use of algal biomass production systems for a better GHG balance in agroindustry.
• To promote agricultural sustainability.
• To improve the production of more healthy foods.

The project is led by the research group in composting (UBUCOMP) of Universidad de Burgos. The consortium is complemented by the company Kepler Ingeniería y Ecogestión located in Burgos, Universidad de Valladolid-FUNGE as well as Centro Tecnológico Nacional Agroalimentario de Extremadura (CTAEX) located Badajoz and Denominación de Origen Vinos de Uclés based between Cuenca & Toledo.
